Catch All Discussion Board / Re: Licensing not paid?

Yes, we need guidance beyond "stick with us" at this point.  I'm willing to stick with them, but what do we do on August 1?

No it is not a good situation at all and we have as of tonite, just 7 days left to decide what we all will do if still no word.
I for one, will shut down and ask for my refund of August's already paid fee's.

I hope it does not come to that. I hope that we "do" indeed have a resolve by 7 days time.

It is pretty stressful however as it sits right now.

I'm on your side.

I understand the angst everyone is feeling, because I'm feeling it too. I disagree, I believe that SL has been keeping us in the loop as much as they can in an ongoing legal situation. Anthony Hernandez has promised us an update this coming week and they updated us last Tuesday. Don't get me wrong I am not defending SL, but I understand their position. As I said in a previous post SL still has the ASCAP seal on their website and are still selling plans, both are positive signs. What to do in response is a personal choice, I choose to pay the ASCAP fee if it comes to that and hope I am at least partially compensated in some way in the future while I don't expect it. Paying the $200 to will consume the rest of my station budget for the year, new music, marketing, and software upgrades will have to wait. This is not a good situation by any means.

Yeah, MrBill, but if there's nothing to report, there's nothing to report.  However, I totally agree with you. They've left us twisting in the wind.

I got the same thing when I tried to read their "terms and conditions" to see if the $200 per year is per "station" or per "account." (With SL, I have 3 stations on one account.)  One more reason why I'm not giving them one red cent.  I'll pull all their music or go off-the-air first.

I'm in the process right now of identifying every ASCAP song I play.  And if this dispute isn't resolved by 7/31, I'm either gonna pull all their music from my stations or shut off the servers completely.

On Jan. 1, 2016, when the new CRB rates went into effect, I cancelled SL and also cancelled my streaming service.  But, to my surprise, when SL introduced the $59 rate almost 7 months later and I re-upped and got new streaming accounts, when I tried to resubmit my stations to TuneIn, I found that they were still just sitting there dormant.  So, all I had to do was submit new URLs and we were back.

My point is, this time if I do take the stations down again, this go-round I'll cancel the SL account (which is where the most money goes), but retain the streaming account ($18/month--only with the severs turned off).  That way, when (if) this gets resolved, all I have to do is reinstate my SL account and turn the servers back on.

I hope it doesn't come to this.  Stay tuned.

And yes, I know that we heard from StreamLicensing once.  But one time is not enough.  They should have someone posting here on a regular basis assuring us that they are continuing to work on the situation.

Like many of you, I'm waiting until next week to see if things are worked out.  If not, I will probably go ahead and pay the license fee to ASCAP.

I clicked on the link from the email I received from ASCAP (someone named Max) so I could check out the information ahead of time in case I have to pay them.  On the form I saw online, there was a check box asking if I had read and agreed to ASCAP's terms and conditions.  When I clicked on the link so I could read their terms and conditions, it went to a page stating that I couldn't read the terms and conditions unless I log in or register first.  Anyone else have this happen?  Why would I want to register just to read the terms and conditions when I'm not sure at this point that I am going to pay them?  This makes no sense to me.  I should be able to read the terms and conditions up front before registering.

I sent a response to Max at ASCAP.  I'll see what he says.  I'm still praying that SL and ASCAP get this worked out before July 31.

I must say that the silence on the part of SteamLicensing bothers me.  On one hand, I understand that when you are involved in a legal issue, you don't want to say much of anything to anyone until it is resolved.  On the other hand, this does remind me of Live365 during the last years of their existence (I was using their service) when we never heard anything from management there.  Any kind of communication - even if you don't really say much - is better than silence.  Those of us who were with Live365 felt like we had the rug yanked out from underneath us.  I really don't want to see a repeat of that situation.

I'm going with the cooler heads. I take the following as good signs.
SL is still selling licensing, they are still advertise ASCAP on their site, and we have not received anymore emails from ASCAP.

just because the rate we were quoted from ASCAP, does not mean that is what SL was paying ASCAP. They, meaning, SL, would have had a contracted rate based on the number of clients and projected clients.

Cooler heads will prevail and I am sure SL will give us an update before the deadline provided by ASCAP.
