StreamLicensing News July 2016
« on: July 31, 2016, 10:52:17 AM »
July was a very busy month behind the scenes here at StreamLicensing. We thought we might take a minute to fill you in on some of our latest developments.

We do want you to know we appreciate your business and continued dedication to Internet Radio. All of you are the best of the elite in our book!

Player Updates...

Here are some clarifications on miscommunication and some great things we are doing with the new player.

Player use and per-performance fees.

As all of you well know, back in January 2016 the Copyright Royalty Board did away with the Small Webcaster verbiage that all of relied on heavily to be able to afford to be legal. In those rulings it was determined that small webcaster's would now be liable for the SoundExchange performance fee of $.0017 per performance. To help counter those fees, without raising your rates again, we introduced our new monetized player for all of you to use. We offer an opt out on that player if you agree to pay performance fees.

Using your own player.

It IS NOT illegal to use your own player as long as it opens under the StreamLicensing.com domain and you follow the 2 click rule set forth by BMI. Your player CAN NOT open on your website, it must open on StreamLicensing.com. Auto Play on your website is not allowed by BMI to fall under our licensing.

We created a very simple process for this. Your visitor clicks a Listen Live or Play Now button on your website. Your website has to close and your player landing page opens under the StreamLicensing domain. They then have to click play for the player to start. Once the player starts (in a new window) the landing page closes and your website reopens.

Check out how it works (the example station uses ad insertion from a third party provider and the Pro Version of our monetized player):

Click Here to go to the A1Hits Radio Website. Click on the "Live Streaming" button and you will see how it works.

If you opt to use your own player we will bill you each month for your performance fees.

Use our player without the ads.

We have had many compliments on our new player so one of the new things we have been working on this past month was a way you guys could use our player without the banner ads. If you want to pay the performance fees we can put you on this new program and you get a very nice player. Contact the Support Desk and we will get you started.

Custom Album Art is back.

By default the new player uses Last.fm for album art. We know many of you have spent tons of time customizing the album art in your Client Area so we added a new feature where you can elect to use the art from your StreamLicensing account instead of the default setting. Just open a ticket on the Support Desk and we can have our player team make the changes for you. There is no charge for this service.

Compliance Issue Notifications...

In order for you to be covered under our licensing you must stay in compliance with our Terms Of Service. If your stream stops validating or our compliance professionals find your website is non conforming they will open a Support Ticket to you. Please do not ignore the ticket, make a quick response to it so we can help. We don't open these to BUST you, we open them to try and help. Usually it is a very simple fix that can be done quickly and painlessly!

What the ruling on the Streamlicensing Mobile App. Are performance fee cover with the App or do we have to cover the performance fees.
