Shoutcast v2 or Icecast-KH
« on: December 21, 2016, 10:38:08 PM »
I received an email from StreamLicensing today regarding problems using Shoutcast v1.  I'm looking at switching but not sure what would be best.  I'm broadcasting at 128kbs .mp3 and want to keep that format.  Which would work better for me, Shoutcast v2 or Icecast-KH?  Opinions please.

Mr Bill
You are far more advanced than I, but I will tell you I have been using IcecastKH for 1 1/2 years via ReliaStream. I am pleased with everything about ReliaStrean at $ 8.00 per month. (MP3 @128)

Was sad to hear of CHROME and SAFARI recent updates causing a problem for listeners to be able to hear our stream in either of those two browsers. They cite security issues. There's a possibility of the browsers reverting to allow Shoutcast v1 streams again, since the issue affects, potentially, thousands of internet radio streams using Shoutcast v1, but, who knows if that will happen. I am pondering the future solution to make our stream available to everyone again.

In the meantime, I posted this on my website pages today:

"IMPORTANT: CHROME and SAFARI browsers recently made updates that inadvertently make listening to our music stream in a Chrome or Safari browser impossible. A solution is being worked on. The GreatGold stream still works fine in FIREFOX browsers, some Mobile Apps, and many software programs like WINAMP. - GREATGOLD."
